All About Elmer - An L&K All Star Yarn Base!

Welcome to the L&K Blog! 

Today, we're going to dive into our beloved Elmer yarn. Why is Elmer currently taking the spotlight?!

1. Elmer an absolute work horse yarn. It gives structure to garments while pairing perfectly with halo fluffs like Birdie and Mho Mho
2. It is featured in our newest pattern release, The Kidding Around Shawl!
3. Historically Elmer has not been given the spotlight it deserves. When you ask The Kids at the shop what we regularly knit, we always answer Elmer! 
4. It is soft and yet durable. Knitting by itself, it gives a very "clean" finish to knitted garments
5. The 100g skeins give a lot of yardage! When knitting the Laura Sweater, one of the Kids used three Elmer skeins for a size 4 garment when holding it with Birdie Lilla. (This version had bracelet length sleeves and a cropped finish!)

So what is Elmer? Good question - we actually have FOUR different types of Elmer at L&K: 

1. Elmer - Heavy Fingering/Sport with 400yds/100g of 80% Merino, 20% Cashmere 
2. Elmer Worsted - Worsted with 290yds/100g of 80% Merino, 20% Cashmere 
3. Elmer Tweed - Heavy Fingering/Sport with 400 yds/100g or 200 yds/50g of 70% Merino, 30% Cashmere
4. Elmer Tweed Worsted - Worsted with 135 yds/50g of 70% Merino, 30% Cashmere

Some of our favorite colorways across the Elmer Bases include:

1. Elmer in Cambric - Blues sell out fast at the L&K and Cambric is no exception! It is the perfect "sky blue" that will liven up any knit. 
2. Elmer in Pop Rocks - Pop Rocks will forever be a signature color for the L&K with its intensely bright statement pink. So why not knit it up in Elmer?!
3. Elmer Worsted in Vintage - We love Vintage as a classic neutral. It has some lovely grey undertones that makes it perfect to pair with virtually any color. 
4. Elmer Tweed in Cork - Perfect for a ribbed beanie! The Kids just completed a Manhattan Hat by Tori Yu in this colorway!
5. Elmer Tweed Worsted in Farmhouse - The red flecks in Farmhouse are the perfect strike to your original grey. This would be great for an oversized pullover - or better yet, adjusting your gauge and using it for Park William's School Supply Sweater!
