I don’t know about you, but this time of year is all about cozy creativity for us here at The Lamb & Kid! The days are short and we’re so fortunate to be able to bring warmth and satisfaction into our daily lives through our projects – and twinkly lights. Lots and lots of twinkly lights (and candle too, of course!).Twinkly lights are on rotation here with candles – we’ve had a few days of nothing but rain. So. Much. Rain. We’re all good, but the darkness settles in early on rainy days, doesn’t it? I’ve been enjoying this candle from Ranger Station. The house smells subtly woodsy – I can almost forget the dogs and I need to go out and dodge puddles.
Here at the store, we’re relishing our restock of our Percy base. The 100% cashmere feels so amazing both running through your fingers and once it blooms in a gentle block! I’m just done with my second Weekend Away shawl in Pop Rocks and Plaid Is My Favorite Color. It’s a comfortable knit and I’m thinking hard about a third – maybe in all Vintage this time for a quiet winter version.
We’ve all caught the Percy fever. Jennifer is (im)patiently waiting for the dye lab to finish with last week’s Dyed-To-Order event so she can start a Weekend Away in Alpine Flannel. She’s going to try Percy held with Sugar – a little less fluff and a little more cashmere. What could possibly be wrong with that?
Many of the kids have a Bonspiel cowl on their needles. Kate got started with the pattern colors of Evergreen and Conversation Pit, but she’s already planning a second with the colors Cambric and Airmail. Ashley is using some of the Percy she purchased on opening weekend in 2021 -- sometimes the perfect project is worth the wait! She says it’s flying off the needles. And Susan cast on with Balsamic and Loam, while Pam and Michelle both chose Town & Country -- Pam is pairing hers with Dean and Michelle is doubling with Granita. We have a gorgeous wall of Percy colors in the store right now – give us a call and we’ll help you put together a Bonspiel of your own!
Percy isn’t the only yarn base bringing us joy. Many of us just wrapped up a sweater in Tod Worsted – our Varsity Sweater, out this weekend, is a better than basic raglan with a trio of sporty stripes. If you haven’t tried Tod Worsted yet, you’re in for a treat. The yak and cashmere blend is lofty and soft and hard-wearing all at the same time! It’s the perfect sweater base.
Weekends aren’t all knitting though – most of the time! Lately there’s been some baking too. Have you seen the Salted Chocolate Chunk Cookie recipe from Smitten Kitchen? It’s one of our all time favorites (Bob in particular loves this one!). I’ve made countless batches over the years and it always turns out great. You can double this one too and feed a crowd. For an extra treat, use Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers. Delicious!
I hope you have a chance to spend some time with your current WIPs and freshly baked cookies this weekend. I know I will!
Follow us on Instagram if you don’t already – next week we’re planning on featuring some of our favorite quick knits with ready-to-ship kit options! Comment below with your favorite quick knit patterns – do you have a go-to when you want to make something with that feeling of instant satisfaction? And let me know if you have a favorite chocolate cookie recipe to share too!

I’m almost done with my Nanaimo cardigan. I tried your sample on when I visited the store in October. Kate helped me pick out the yarn. Of course I’m making the same as the sample, Lobster. Can’t wait to wear it.
Hi Lorie! We have a lot of Percy and Birdie in the store right now and would be happy to put together a kit for Weekend Away for you. Send us an email, or call the store when we’re open and we’ll be happy to help!
Would love to see the weekend shawl kits available
Merry Christmas
Lorie
