Knits for 2026: Kids Patterns & The Next Generation of Knitters!

We have said it before and we'll say it again - knitting is for everyone! Whether starting at 8 or starting at 58, knitting brings benefits to all of its students. 

With spring-break approaching across the country, if you have kiddos that are looking for their next after-school hobby, why not start them on knitting now?! The Lamb & Kid offers kids classes, because at the end of day, we want to inspire that next generation of knitters as much as we want to be inspired ourselves. 

Not sure where to start with kids knitting? We've got you covered! Here are some of our tips and tricks to get kids into knitting: 

1. Start with a hardier weight yarn such as Aran or Bulky and bigger needles - think US size 9 needles and above. Straight needles can also be a great way to get started for ease!
2. YouTube is your friend! Purl Soho has some great videos for beginners of all ages! There are also some YouTube creators with tutorial videos geared for kids.
3. Get going with a simple garter stitch scarf or headband. There are lots of FREE patterns on Ravelry - the Smith Scarf by Wool and The Gang would also be a free pattern winner!
4. Pick fun colors! Let kids' imaginations run wild. At the Lamb & Kid, we're known for bright and fun colors - from fetch, to pop rocks, to galactic, to trippy and cloud nine, we love a bright and bold knit.

4. The Wavy Gravy Wrap by Wanderlust Knitter  - Ashley just knitted this into THE CUTEST baby blanket! She did colors to mimic our shop sample on Big Birdie in Ginger Peachy, Gloaming, Foxtrot, Choux and Town & Country
